God’s love stops being abstract when we look at the cross, where Christ dies for us while we are still sinners. We talk about what comes out of us under pressure and how a renewed mind learns to run every reaction through Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sticky Notes And Love Demonstrated

SPEAKER_04

Lord, you know. You're now listening to play. Is that my cup running over with love for you? Like all over the house. All these days. So as she would just go about her day, she was getting another sticky note from me. And I even put one on the inside of the toilet lid. Like, don't flush my love away. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I get dramatic like that. But the point is, I was I was demonstrating. I was demonstrating how much I love her. And you could tell, you know, by my actions, through my demonstration of love for her, that I was I'm crazy about my wife.

we explore filtering everything through Christ's cross, renewing your mind, and letting the Holy Spirit transform your responses. What comes out when you're under pressure?

SPEAKER_00

Hello, and welcome to Plays on Word Radio, where we discuss, analyze, work, and play on the Word of God. Thank you for joining us on this excursion today. Let's join Pastor Teddy, also known as Fred David Kenny Jr., the founder of Plays on Word Theater, as he does a deep dive into the Word of God.

Romans 5:8 And Agape Love

SPEAKER_03

Okay, you guys, this is from a series of messages that I delivered at Sandy Cove in Maryland, the Christian Retreat Center for their family vacation. And just want to share it with y'all. So check out.

SPEAKER_04

In Romans 5.8, it says God demonstrates his love towards us. That while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Brothers and sisters, let me tell you, that is the most radical demonstration of love that has ever happened. That's the most radical demonstration of love that has ever happened. Christ on the cross is the demonstration, and the word used is agape. They were talking about that this morning.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

God demonstrated his agape love, his agape towards us. That while we weren't even on his team, while we were enemies of him, the demonstration was the cross of Christ. If anybody ever questions whether or not God loves them, oh my goodness, go to Romans 5. The cross of Christ is the demonstration. How much do you does God love you? More than you can imagine. And you can tell a lot about a person by what they do. Not just what they say, but what they do. And look at what God, look at what our God did. When we were enemies, we weren't even on his team. He made a way. This to me shows the character of someone that's unbelievably amazing. Incredibly amazing. For him to go to such lengths.

God’s Masterpiece With Broken Tools

SPEAKER_04

He could have just hit the reset button and been like, with all of them. I'm done, but he didn't. He said, watch this. I'm gonna take he's the only contractor I know that uses broken tools to bring about what he wants. He's like, watch this. I'm gonna make a masterpiece with broken tools. No contractor is gonna do that. When I go to build something and I go to Home Depot, if they try to give me a broken saw, be like, yeah, good luck to you. Try to try to make something with a broken saw, a broken hammer. But God, on display of how magnificent He is, He uses broken tools to create His masterpiece. Amen to that? Okay, so let's look at this real quick. How

A Renewed Mind Faces Offense

SPEAKER_04

a renewed mind responds differently. We'll be talking about a renewed mind. Okay, so how do we how do we respond differently to offense? Like when you're offended. A renewed mind, and keep in mind, with a with a renewed mind, it means spirit-filled believer with the the word the word of God, the spirit of God working on the believer. And he's working on all of us. We're still in his shop, he's working on us. But how do we respond to being offended as an offense against us, not through bitterness and wrath, but kindness and forgiveness. And a renewed mind puts the cross right there over the mouth. Somebody offends you, whoa, I want to light you up. But that's from my fallen nature. Lord, where's my filter? Be my filter. I'm crucified with Christ. Yeah, and the life I live, I live by faith in the Son of God, and He's living through me. You know what? That's how, and I was speaking with somebody about this just recently. That's how Corey Temboom was able to forgive the person that was responsible for her sister Betsy's death. Corey Temboom, just show of hands. You guys know what I'm talking about? A lot of you do. If you don't, Corey Temboom was taking her and her family, they hid these Jewish folks in this hiding place in their house. And the Nazis came and got them and took them all. And they took them to a concentration camp. And her sister Betsy, who she loved very much, both of them were being persecuted by this guard, this person in the in the camp. And they after the and Betsy died in the concentration

Corrie Ten Boom And Holy Spirit Power

SPEAKER_04

camp. Corey was made it out. Many years later, she's going around the world preaching the forgiveness of Jesus. Preaching about Jesus and the forgiveness found in him. And as she's she's done and she's shaking hands with people afterwards, this figure comes up to her. And this figure, this person says, Can basically, can this can this can this Jesus forgive me? Can you forgive me? It was the person that was responsible for her sister's death, rotten to them in the in the camp. And she at that moment she's still in God's shop. She's not the perfected car yet. She's not the the beautified final product. She's still in God's shop, but she's she prayed right there. Lord, I I I can't, I can't for I can't I can't do this, Lord. I can't do this. Where's my filter? Where's my filter? Filter over my mouth and my mind. Help me, help me, Lord. And she she asked for that help. And then she was able to say, I for I do forgive you. I I've I forgive you. That only happens. That only happens because of the power of the Holy Spirit, because without the Holy Spirit, that's not gonna happen. Trust me, that's not gonna happen. Like I said, our flesh is still fallen, and Paul in Romans 7, he said, Man, I see this battle happening because in my mind in my mind, in my soul, I I love God's law, but there's this war happening with my flesh, man. My the things I want to do, I I don't do, and the things I don't want to do, I do. Who can save me from this body of death? But he doesn't stop there. He says, Thanks be to God through Christ Jesus our Lord. Yeah. Thanks be to God because God is the one. Listen, Christ died also to empower us so that we would live and he would live through us. And when he lives through us, there's more reflection of him. There's he's seeing more of the reflection when he's allowed to live through us. More of him, less of us. How do we deal with with conflict? Well, the renewed mind does not let anger harden into sin. Cain was upset with his brother, angry. He was really upset with God. But it hardened into sin. God warned him, but he didn't take that. Opportunity. Not giving a place to the devil, but give a place to the spirit of God. Don't give the devil like that Corey Ten Boom scenario. She could be justified in lighten that person up from her flesh. You're the reason my sister died. You caused all kinds of harm and all these things coming from the flesh. But the fact that Christ died for her puts into perspective wait a second, he died for me too. And corrupt talk. We've talked about that. We'll close up on

Build A Cross-Centered Mind Daily

SPEAKER_04

this. Cultivating a cross-centered mind. Regularly, and this is something I've been doing, regularly rehearse the gospel to yourself. The gospel message that Christ came, lived, died, and rose again according to the scriptures. Think about that. Think about Galatians 2.20. I have been crucified with Christ. Rehearse those things to yourself. It really does help. Ask in heated moments, what did Jesus do for me at the cross and how should that shape what I say or do right now? I know that's hard to do when you're in the heat of the moment. All you have to remember is where's my filter? The cross is my filter. You plug that filter in and you have a fighting chance. I'm not saying every time you'll have victory over what the flesh wants to do. But let me tell you something. At least you have something in your utility belt you can pull out and have some kind of fighting chance. Some you'll win, some you'll lose. You will start to win more than you lose if you start employing these things. And that's really the goal. Confess your thoughts when and react and when your thoughts and reactions don't match the cross. Confess it. Call it the way God sees it. That's a motto of mine. Call it the way God sees it. And remember what God says about you. He says in Corinthians, I don't have the slide, but it says, Such were some of you, but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ by the Spirit of our God. And you are loved, absolutely loved by God. So in this, let me conclude in this, the old filter, deceitful desires in the fallen flesh. I'm gonna put this down here because I want to show y'all something. The fallen flesh. Deceitful desires, the new filter, the cross of Christ, how to plug that in. Lord, where's my I need that filter? And just okay, wait a second. Did Christ die for me to say this? Did Christ die for me? And because it because you rehearsed the gospel during the day, it's fresh in your mind. Did Christ die for me to do? No, he didn't. Oh I have a I have an opportunity to choose what God wants here. How a renewed mind responds differently. Listen, the unsaved person, the person that's not filled with the spirit, does not even care about the things of God. So if you're having that battle, that's a good sign. And if when you become a believer, believe me, believe me, your the bullseye on you gets bigger. It's like, oh, they're saved now. Okay, let's start launching. And the last one is cultivating a cross-centered mind. That's so important. So important. And let me just give you this last slide here of what we spoke about, which was the first one was a new mind for a new life. Last night, breaking free from the world's mold, and today filtering life through the cross of Christ. It is so important, the whole cross of Christ. And the point it's so important to get to know the Lord. And when you start to understand who He is, everything changes. Your fear goes like this, your faith goes like this. That's how people, because the closer you get to the Lord, the more you realize, wow, how great he is. And we don't even get a we get a tiny fraction.

Peter’s Storm And Fear In The Boat

SPEAKER_04

Now I would like to do a scene from one of our plays for you, from our Pete play. I don't have my outfit on. I'm gonna take my glasses off. And I'm gonna give you the scene here. It's not long, it's it's short. This the scene is Peter, I'm gonna I'm playing Peter, okay? And Peter, the people are coming up to G Peter trying to, they want to find Jesus, okay? So I'm gonna go into Peter mode. Without my outfit, it's okay. I need your imaginations here. You guys ready? Okay. So Jesus, he would often go off and pray all night long. In the middle of the night, he would go and pray. And we got up one day, and all the people, they were they came up to they were asking me, where is he? Where is he? Where is he? I looked everywhere. The sun was about to go down, and I finally found him. I said, I said, Lord, everybody's looking for you. He said, Let's go over to the other side. He met the Sea of Galilee. So we all jumped into my boat. Now we got into my boat. Now, the Sea of Galilee is about 700 feet below normal sea level. And what happens a lot of the time, the cool air will come down the side of the hill and hit the water that's been heated up by the sun and boom, kick up a storm really quick. I've been on the Sea of Galilee my whole life. I've never seen what I'm about to describe to you. When we started out, the Sea of Galilee was like a sheet of glass. It was so calm, it was beautiful. The sun was just going down. It was so calm that Jesus went into the back of the boat and he was sleeping on a cushion in the back of the boat. Then all of a sudden, the wind started picking up, and the waves started rolling in. And the these these clouds, dark, I mean dark clouds rolled in over us. It was a darkness you could feel. And the the boats being tossed. Boom! And I could feel the other disciples, they were looking at me, James and John, Zebedee's kids, my partners, and my brother Andy to see if we were afraid because we were the fishermen and I was putting on my best brave face. It was like boom! I was like, wake up, wake up, boom, spray all over the place.

SPEAKER_02

I'm like, no, we're all right, where you are, you alright? I'm a pro. I was good to go until this one wave.

SPEAKER_04

I looked up at it coming in and brought the boat up. And when we came down, the boat went water sprayed all out of me. And then water poured it over the bow. Now, every single one of us, all of us, we are completely terrified of this storm. Every one of us, one of the guys goes in the back of the boat to wake Jesus up and says, Teacher, don't you care? We're gonna drown. Jesus gets up. He rebukes the wind and the waves. And he says, Peace.

SPEAKER_02

Be still.

SPEAKER_04

When he said peace be still, it went And the waves The waves that were rolling in.

SPEAKER_05

When he said peace be still, they went.

SPEAKER_04

He looked at us And he said, Why are you so afraid? Don't you have any faith?

SPEAKER_05

We were like, What? We're more

Who Is This Jesus, Really?

SPEAKER_05

afraid of who is this in the boat with us? We're more afraid of him and what he just did than we were of the storm in the first place. And we asked each other, who is this? He speaks to the wind and the waves!

SPEAKER_00

And they obey him.org.
