Lord, you know you listen on the Place on Word radio.
Speaker 2:Place on Word radio. Place on Word radio. Hey guys you are now listening to Place on Word. It's the best. You are welcome.
Speaker 3:The scriptures now make sense. Yes, the virgin will be with child and she'll give birth to a son, and she will call his name Emmanuel, which means God. With us, from out of Bethlehem, will come the one who will be ruler of God's people, whose origins are from ancient times, from eternity. And for unto us a child is born, for unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders, and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father and the Word of God.
Speaker 4:Thank you for joining us on this excursion. Today, let's join Pastor Teddy, also known as Fred David Kenny Jr, the founder of Plays on Word Theater, as he does a deep dive into the Word of God.
Speaker 3:Amen, amen, amen, to the 100th 1-0-0 episode of Plays on Word Radio man. Many of you have been on this journey with us. Yes, as we embark on excursions through the scripture and accompanied by my own madness, and add ocd or whatever you want to call it. My brother calls it ted, but that's a syndrome by itself. Welcome very much to you. And, uh, I want to say, you know, merry christmas. To you guys, I want to say, um, happy, know, merry Christmas. To you guys, I want to say Happy Jesus's birthday. How about that, technically, those of you that are pulling your chins right now saying, wait a second, that's not Jesus's birthday. You're right, you're right.
Speaker 3:We don't know the actual birth of Jesus. The time, and it most likely was not December 25th. I don't want to bust anybody's bubble right now. Yeah, I know this one pastor. He came out and was he? Just? I gotta love this guy? He came out to his congregation and he was like I just want y'all to know, santa Claus ain't real. A bunch of the parents were all upset with him. Think about this. They're upset with him for telling the truth. Oh, they were sizzled. They were all upset because the kids were like what, mommy? Anyway, hey, yeah, you know Much could be said about that, but you got to love them. So I'm telling you guys the truth. I hate to bust anybody's bubble, but Jesus's birthday most likely was not December 25th. But guess what?
Speaker 3:What we do celebrate, what the world celebrates on December 25th, is not a pagan holiday. Although many unbelievers partake in Christmas, you know, they take the time off from work and all that stuff like that. Um, but the, the Christians, commandeered this date which, uh, was marked as a pagan holiday before Christ, celebrating the end of the darkness and the beginning of the light starting to come back to the world. And for, you know they're, they were agrarian, so it was all about harvest and crops and all that stuff. So, everybody, they threw a big party. Anyway, without going into a whole bunch of detail on that, the Christians commandeered it and today we don't really we don't celebrate that. The majority of the world doesn't celebrate that pagan stuff.
Speaker 3:What the majority of the world is celebrating is Christmas, the event where, as Christians, we celebrate the birth of the one that the entire Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, points to. The entire Scripture, man, from A to to z, is about christ. He told the teachers of the law that had their phds. He said you diligently, diligently, search the scriptures because in them you think you, you have eternal life. You don't realize they're talking about me from the beginning to the end.
Speaker 3:The, the word points to this one who is coming, who's coming in one way or another, and what he's going to do, what he'll be like. And it points to it and says he's coming, he's going to be from the tribe of Judah and he's going to be born in Bethlehem and you know all these different things. He's going to be from eternity. He's going to be called the mighty God. He will be the, the father of everlasting life. That's what that means in that Isaiah passage where it says uh, he will be called the um, uh, everlasting father. It's not that he is the father that he prayed to. As Trinitarians we don't subscribe to that. No, but what he is is the father of everlasting. Very much like Henry, you could make the argument. You know, henry Ford is the father of the automobile, or the Wright brothers are the fathers of flight.
Speaker 3:Christ is the father of everlasting and we celebrate what the scriptures pointed to, spoke of, and this is what we celebrate at this time of year, since we don't know the exact date, okay, and the exact date is not nearly as important as the fact that he came. And so we're just participating the way the angels were and the way all the miracle births in the scripture, the way all the miracle births in the scripture, the way they were celebrated, starting, if you get into the Hebrew, if you look at Eve, when Cain was born, she was like God has given me a man. And in the previous chapter, that's chapter 4, but in Genesis 3, god promised that the seed of the woman was going to come. Basically, deal with this. The first promise of a gospel, the first gospel promise we get is Genesis 3.15. And the entire Bible opens up from that point on. It actually opens up from Genesis 1.1, but it takes a sharp incline upwards from Genesis 3.15 about this one that's coming. And then Eve's like the Lord. She said I have acquired a man from the Lord and there's hope in that. There's hope in that. Could this be, could this be the one? Think about that. Eve is hoping for Messiah right there.
Speaker 3:And then it moves down the line and we find out that through Abraham and you go past the flood, the whole thing, and then, through Abraham, isaac, jacob, man. I could say so much on this and I'm tempted to just ADD completely. It goes down to Abraham, then Isaac and Jacob, and then from Jacob to Judah, and then down through Judah to David and all the way down through the kings David down to Christ, who sits on David's throne. Son of David is a messianic term, a term for the Messiah, and the Bible is. You know, there are miracle births that happen. Isaac was not supposed to be. He wasn't supposed to be. It was an impossible birth. Abraham's 100 years old. His wife is 90, post-metapause, yet she got pregnant and bore a son.
Speaker 3:The miracle son, the miracle birth, the, the birth of Obed, was. I wouldn't call it a miracle in the sense of from age, but it was a miracle from the fact that everything looked like it was lost. Everything looked just, there was no hope. And yet, all of a sudden, because of the man of God and because of God in the background working, everything was restored. All that was lost was restored. We're going to touch on that. You're going to see. That was lost was restored. We're going to touch on that. You're going to see that in a little bit. We have a special program for you today. I'm not going to preach the whole time, you know I'm long-winded, but we have a very special program for you today, and we were Well.
Speaker 3:Before I even get on to what we were doing, I want to continue with the thought of just the blessedness of what we remember at this time of year. I have some dear brothers that don't want to celebrate it because they believe they're participating in paganism. And okay, you know, I love you and all that. I don't agree with that perspective. If you're celebrating the birth of Christ, and then you know, then we have some dear brothers that don't even understand the idea of what, how significant this is. Our redemption came into the world. What, how significant this is. Our redemption came into the world. Our way out was our way out of the mess we were in, our condemnation that we were in, came into the world. God so loved us, he so loved the world that he sent his one and only son, and in fact he loved us when we weren't even on his team. We were against him, and this is how he demonstrated his love for us that Christ died for us and this baby was born. And this is what we celebrate at this time of year. At least this is what we should celebrate at this time of year.
Speaker 3:If you're celebrating, getting holiday deals and jingle bells and Santa and that's a whole, not other thing you know, st Nick, it's a raw deal. I mean, you talk about a Christian man. A Christian man and what time and the culture have done to him. Now he's riding a sleigh, sipping on Coca-Cola, with a red-nosed reindeer going through the clouds and all that stuff. And it really is a shame because those of us that are in the family of God in Christ, we're going to meet this guy. He was a staunch defender of the Trinity. I mean, this guy let me not preach on this I don't want to take. Yeah, don't believe the Kris Kringle hype. Saint Nicholas and I have a dear cousin and some dear brothers that are named Nicholas. Yeah, anyway, that's enough said on.
Speaker 3:I'm long-winded. Hey, it's the 100th episode. Can you cut me some slack? Can I get some slack today? Okay, can I get an amen? It's the 100th episode. Praise God and thanks to all the Plays On Word supporters that have contributed and prayed for us and financially contributed to this. We have been streamed in over 50, 55 or 57 countries One of those, that's the number and we have been streamed and heard all around the globe and, yeah, we were even heard in Russia. How do you like that? So, thank you to all of you people who pray and support and are just part of what we are doing here.
Speaker 3:And, uh, that brings me to my next segment here, next section which I want to talk about we completed up our northeast tour. We have two more christmas joe performances left in this year. One is at my home church, calvary Southport in North Carolina, and the other one will be at Calvary Chapel in Clayton, north Carolina, and we are looking forward to both of them. And so that's coming up. Please keep them in prayer, keep both of those in prayer. And we had a great time. We did a Northeast tour. We did Maryland, right outside DC, and it went up to New Jersey, south Jersey and then Central Jersey. A bunch of performances there and what I wanted to share with you guys today, since it's coming up on Christmas, or it is Christmas time, every day for you Christians needs to be Christmas, like for real, for real, every day needs to be Christmas.
Speaker 3:We recognize that God sent His Son. You know he sent his son and we should be grateful. There should be joy. The heavens opened up and they proclaimed it. Man, it was a blowout party man. They were like glory to God in the highest, and these shepherds that were on the field were like yo man. Look at this. Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth and goodwill to men and for those of you who want me to be politically correct, men and women, people, mankind, and so yeah, celebrate that the joy of the Lord and the joy and the good news that he came, and he did come to die and take the sin of the world, take your sin and my sin with you. As far as for the East, is from the West. He has ripped it from us, removed it, washed us clean, made us right in God's eyes and then, on the third day, he was raised to life again, as a stamp of approval that the sacrifice that he gave was accepted and acceptable.
Speaker 3:So what I want to do for you guys, since I've talked up a storm, I mean, cut me some slack. I am a preacher and I want to present to you one of the performances that we did. We have audio from it and I just want you to sit back, grab some eggnog or some cocoa, or some Coco Loco, which is coffee if you're Puerto Rican, and some of you will get that, and so just sit back and enjoy this and be blessed by this presentation of Christmas. Joe, they're finally asleep.
Speaker 3:Okay, let me make sure I understand the story that all you shepherds came out and told us tonight. You said that you were out and you were shepherding the flocks, and you said that an angel of the Lord appeared before you. Right, is that right? Is that correct? And the glory of the Lord shone around you and you were afraid. One of you told us that you were really afraid. Right, that's amazing. And wait, you said that the angel said don't be afraid, for I bring you good news for all the people, for unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Savior who is Christ, the Lord, and this will be the sign to you you will find a baby lying in a manger and wrapped in swaddling cloths. Right, that's correct. Right, I got that part of the story right? Oh, but wait. And then you said if I get the story wrong, make sure you tell me that the heavens opened up and you saw multitudes and multitudes of the heavenly hosts, and they were all proclaiming glory to God in the highest and peace earth and goodwill to men. Right, I got that right.
Speaker 3:That was basically the gist of what you told us. This is incredible. This is absolutely amazing. You know what? If you were to have told me nine months ago that I would be here right now in Bethlehem with Mary and a baby, I wouldn't believe you. I wouldn't believe you.
Speaker 3:She tried to tell me, though, nine months ago. She tried to tell me that she was pregnant. I didn't have nothing to do with that. Put yourself in my sandals for one moment. The one that's promised to you, the one that you are betrothed to I mean a betrothal is basically. The only thing left is a ceremony. You're basically married, and she comes and tells you that she's pregnant. You had nothing to do with it. But wait, there's more. She tried to say it was by the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 3:I was like what? What? I had all these emotions going on. I was angry. How can this be? How can this be? I was hurt. How can this be? I was afraid, because if the people found out that she was pregnant outside of marriage, according to the law of Moses, they're supposed to stone her.
Speaker 3:I remember thinking to myself when she told me this news. I remember thinking to myself God must be punishing me for something I did. That's why this shame has come upon me. Now I am a builder, a carpenter, by trade, in fact, I make the yokes for the oxen and if something is broken, I'm the one that usually fixes it. The entire village, everyone knows you go to Joseph and we take care of it. Now, when she told me this news, I remember thinking to myself how do I fix this? There's got to be a way. There's got to be a way. I got it. I got it. I got it. I'll divorce her quietly. No one will ask any questions. No, I mean, I love Mary. I don't want any harm to come to her. That's the fix, it's in the law of Moses.
Speaker 3:God is so good. Oh, that's the fix. I'll divorce her quietly. So now, that angel that you shepherds told us about tonight, that you came and told us, the angel that you saw out in the field, I think I know the exact angel you're talking about, because when I decided to divorce Mary quietly, because I love Mary, I don't want any harm to come to her, and if I divorce her quietly, that's the Mary. I don't want any harm to come to her, and if I divorce her quietly, that's the fix. When I made up my mind and I went to sleep that night, that angel that you saw flew to me in my dream, and when I saw him, I was like what? And the angel said to me Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name Jesus, for it is he that will save his people from their sins. Man, when I woke up from that dream, I was like what she's telling the truth, it is of the Holy Spirit, whoa, and from that point on, god, he is so good he started to bring to my remembrance all these scriptures that I heard when I was a little boy the rabbis in synagogue. They'd be going back and forth and back and forth talking about the scriptures when I was about this tall and all of a sudden I remembered one of the passages. This one was from Prophet Isaiah and he prophesied about 700 years ago from where we are right now. And Prophet Isaiah, his prophecy. It says the virgin, the virgin, will be with child and she'll give birth to a son and she'll call his name Emmanuel. Emmanuel, that means God with us, oh, wow.
Speaker 3:So from that point on, when Mary started to show a little bit, she went to go stay with her relative Elizabeth in Judea. And Elizabeth was pregnant too. Yeah, yeah. And Elizabeth is old. Oh, you don't seem to understand. Elizabeth is really old. Oh, no, you still don't seem to understand what I'm talking about. Elizabeth is too old.
Speaker 3:And when Mary came to the house and knocked on the door, the baby in Elizabeth's womb leapt with joy because he knew who Mary was carrying and she was filled with the Holy Spirit and she brought Mary in and she said why does the mother of my Lord come to me? And Mary came in and sang a magnificent song, and she blessed the God of heaven. She said my soul magnifies the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior. He's been mindful of his servant's humble estate and from now on women will call me blessed.
Speaker 3:Now, mary stayed with her for a little while, elizabeth and her husband. They couldn't have children, and when the announcement came to Zacharias, elizabeth's husband, he was working in the temple. He's one of the priests and he went in to take care of the incense in the temple. And all of a sudden, at the right side of the altar I think it was that same angel you saw and he saw that angel and he was like. And the angel said to him Zacharias, your prayers have been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will give birth to a son and you shall call him John, and he will be great among his people. And so Zacharias didn't really believe the angel, though. He said well, how can this be? I'm old, really old. And the angel said I stand in the presence of God and you're going to be mute until all this comes to pass.
Speaker 3:Now, mary, she came back because we had to go down to here, bethlehem, you know, beth meaning house of Lechem, meaning bread. Bethlehem, the house of bread. We had to come down here because this is where the city of David is, this is where the clan, the family of David is from, here in Bethlehem. And we had to come down here because the well, you guys might not know, you shepherds might not know, yeah, caesar declared that the whole Roman world, there had to be a census in the whole Roman world. So you had to go to your town of origin, where your clan, where your family is from, to register for the census. And so that's why we came down, because we're from the tribe of Judah, from the family of David, yeah, and that's Bethlehem here. But you shepherds, you shepherds, don't get Wi-Fi out in the fields, that's right. You might not know. Yeah, there's a census going on.
Speaker 3:So, anyway, we're on our way down here and you know a lot of great things happened here in Beth Lachem, abraham and Isaac and Jacob, the patriarchs came through here. And, of course, who could forget the great love story of the scriptures that happened here? Some of you shepherds are looking at me like you don't know the great love story that happened right here in Bethlehem. How can you not know? You shepherded the flocks in the fields that were owned by the man of God.
Speaker 3:Well, let me tell you over 900 years, maybe a thousand years from where we are right now, right here in Bethlehem, there was a man. His name was Elimelech and he had a wife and two sons, and there was a famine that hit this area. There was no bread in the house of bread. So Elimelech got up with his wife and his two sons and they moved to the land of Moab. Well, after some time, elimelech died and his wife's name was Naomi. And, okay, her husband died, but she still has her two sons, and her two sons married local women. One's name was Orpah, the other's name was Ruth, and after some time went by, both Malon and Killian that was Naomi's sons they died. Oh no, naomi has nothing. She has no husband, she's in a foreign land, she has no sons, she has no hope. The only thing she has are two Moabite women that married her sons.
Speaker 3:And then Naomi heard through the grapevine that God had visited his people right here in the house of bread in Bethlehem. So she decided to come back here to Bethlehem and as she did, orpah and Ruth followed along and Naomi said no, no, no, don't come with me If I had a son right now. If I had two sons, would you wait for them to grow up? No, god has made my life very bitter. The hand of the Almighty is against me. No, go back to your families, go back, don't come with me, go back to your families. And so Orpah went back, but Ruth clung to her and Ruth said no, where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God will be my God. And where you die, there I will be buried. And God, deal with me, be it ever so severely if anything but death separates you from me. And Naomi walked right up to her, got right in her face Okay, come on.
Speaker 3:And so they started making their way. And when they got to the outskirts of the town, the entire town, everyone was stirred. The entire town was all looking and they were all saying is this Naomi? Can this be Naomi? Is that Naomi? And Naomi, which means pleasant, naomi said don't call me that, don't call me Naomi, call me Mara, which means bitter, because the Almighty, his hand, is going out against me. I left here full and I've come back empty. Don't call me Naomi, no.
Speaker 3:So they just happened to arrive back here in Bethlehem the house of bread at the time of the barley harvest. They just happened to arrive back here at that time. Ruth went to her mother-in-law and said can I go glean in the fields? Can I go behind the harvesters? And Naomi told her go. And Ruth just so happened to find herself in a field that was owned by a godly man of God named Boaz. And so she gleaned behind the harvesters.
Speaker 3:And when Boaz showed up to his lot with all the employees working, he said the Lord be with you. And all of his employees said the Lord bless you. Can you imagine going to work and getting that kind of greeting? I'm telling you he doesn't have to worry about anybody going down to HR. I'm telling you he doesn't have to worry about anybody going down to HR.
Speaker 3:And then Boaz looked and he called his employee over. He said whoa, whose young woman is that? And the servant said that's Ruth the Moabite. She came back from the land of Moab with Naomi and she's worked all day long In the heat of the day. And she's worked all day long in the heat of the day and she's worked all day long. And Boaz said to his employees don't anyone bother her. In fact, I want you to pull out extra for her. Make sure and let her work with my girls, don't anyone harass her.
Speaker 3:And so Boaz put out that command for her to be protected. See, in the law of Moses, god always provided for those that had no hope and no income. No way. He put in the law that the harvesters are not to take all of the crop of the field. They are to leave the corners, the edges, and leave some in the middle so that the poor and the destitute may partake in the harvest of God. God is always thinking of those that need his help.
Speaker 3:And so Boaz went over and that's what Ruth did. She gleaned. She gleaned behind the harvesters and picked up the scraps they left. And Boaz went over and said my dear, I've heard all the good that you've done since you've come back from Moab Work in my field here. I've instructed my workers not to bother you, not to harass you. If you need any water, you just go get some water. Work with my servant girls here. And Ruth was so happy she said I found favor in your eyes, okay. So she gleaned and gleaned and gleaned.
Speaker 3:When she went back home to her mother-in-law, naomi. When Naomi opened the door and looked at how much grain Ruth had, she said hey, where did you clean today? And Ruth said I cleaned in the field of a kind man. His name is Boaz. As soon as she said that God has not stopped showing kindness to the living and the dead. He is a close relative, he's a kinsman redeemer.
Speaker 3:So Ruth continued, continued to go and harvest behind the harvesters and work in the fields of this man of God, boaz. And Boaz really took a liking to her and Naomi told Ruth this is what I want you to do at the time At the threshing floor go down and lay down, uncover the man's feet after he's had some wine and food, and he'll tell you what to do. So Boaz was completely merry and full and happy and he went down to the threshing floor and he laid down and as he was laying down sleeping, he woke up to a woman at his feet and she said spread your garment over me because you are a kinsman redeemer. She was requesting to be redeemed and Boaz knew exactly what she was saying and he said my dear, this kindness is greater than the kindness you showed at first. I will do all that you ask. You haven't run after the younger men, I will do all that you ask here. And he measured out six measures of barley for her not to go home empty-handed. When she got back home to Naomi, naomi answered the door and basically said who are you? She knew that it was Ruth, but who are you? And Ruth showed her the six measures of barley and Naomi went. The man will not stop until this is taken care of today.
Speaker 3:And so Boaz went to the town gate, the city gate, where all the transactions happened, and it turned out that there was a redeemer that was even closer than Boaz was and he had the right to redeem all that was lost with Naomi and Elimelech and Malon and Kilion. And it just so happened that this other redeemer was walking by and Boaz said ah, brother, come here, do you want to redeem the property and everything that was lost with our brother Elimelech? And the other redeemer said okay, I will. And Boaz was like, and it seems as if the whole love story would never happen. But then Boaz said on the day that you, do you also acquire Ruth, the Moabitess, as your wife to keep alive the name of the dead? And the other redeemer was like whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Now you go ahead and redeem it. I might endanger my own estate. Go ahead.
Speaker 3:And so the way was paved for Boaz and Ruth. And Boaz and Ruth got married and they loved each other and Ruth had a baby boy. And when Ruth had the baby boy, all of the people in Bethlehem, all the women, they all proclaimed Naomi has a son. Naomi has a son. Wow. And everybody had tears coming down their face and they scooped up this baby boy and laid the baby boy on the knees of Naomi, who had no hope. She had no hope. Her husband was gone, her sons were gone, she had nothing left and she thought God was against her. And here God was not against her. God was in the process of redeeming her and Ruth and all that was lost. As tears rolled down her eyes, she looked up and thanked God. She thanked him, though she couldn't see at the time the difficult time she was going through. She couldn't see the hand of God. He was right there, working and restored her completely, and all that was lost was brought back.
Speaker 3:They named this little boy Obed. Obed would grow up and he would have a son. His son's name would be Jesse. Jesse would grow up and have a son. The name of Jesse's son would be David, the shepherd that became king. I am directly in the line of King David. I go directly back to King David, all the way back through the kingly line to Solomon, to David. In fact, if the Romans weren't ruling over us right now and things were the way they were in Israel of old, I would be king instead of just a carpenter. I would be the king of Israel.
Speaker 3:But you know, you shepherds want you to know that you shepherds. You shepherd the flocks in the fields of Boaz and every year you find the perfect lamb and wrap it in swaddling cloth and take it to the temple for sacrifice. It comes from your flocks. You surely know that. And I come down here every year and I participate in the Davidic wood cutting ceremony. We chop wood for the temple, my clan, the clan, the house of David, from here in Bethlehem, and we chop wood for the temple. And I come down here every year. And you know what?
Speaker 3:When me and Mary were, we came down here tonight and we were knocking on people's doors, people from my family, people from the house of David. Not one person. Let us stay with them, except this kind man who let us stay down here with the animals. Not one of the people from my family, but you know what God is so good. I Was upset, knocking on doors and getting them shut in my face. No, no, and every room, every house has a guest room. Every single house has a guest room and offers For, specifically for people that are traveling to the temple. Not one person from my family, but God. He brought to my remembrance as I was sitting there and I was kind of upset. And he brought to my remembrance another scripture that the rabbis, when I was about this tall, the rabbis would be going back and forth and talking about these different scriptures, all the synagogue rabbis talking.
Speaker 3:This other passage. This was from prophet Micah, who prophesied alongside of Isaiah, about 700 years ago from where we are right now. And prophet Isaiah said though you, bethlehem, ephrathah, right here, bethlehem, ephrathah, right here, though you are small among the clans of Judah, from out of you will come the one who will be ruler of my people, whose origins are from ancient times. One of the rabbis even teaches his origins are from eternity. And then, tonight, as Mary gave birth, I received Jesus with my hands. We didn't have a midwife. I received Jesus with my hands. We didn't have a midwife, I received Jesus, and God brought to my attention another scripture.
Speaker 3:This one was from Prophet Isaiah also this one, isaiah said for unto us, a child is born. For unto us, a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders and he will be called oh wait, help me out shepherds. He'll be called wonderful right, but there's more to it. A council somethingepherds. He'll be called up Wonderful right, but there's more to it Counsel, oh yeah, counsel, but there's more to it. Mighty something, mighty God, right.
